Fight! Fight! Fight!

A tribute to the moment President Trump got back on his feet — and to the resilience that carried him to a second term.

The moment

He stood up.

On the evening of Saturday 13 July 2024, Donald Trump was a few minutes into a campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds in Butler, Pennsylvania, when shots were fired from a nearby rooftop. A bullet struck his upper right ear. Secret Service agents covered him on the stage.

Moments later he rose, his face streaked with blood, raised his fist toward the crowd and called out: “Fight! Fight! Fight!” The crowd answered with “U-S-A”. Within hours the image of that raised fist, under an American flag, had gone around the world.

Two days later he walked into the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee with a bandage on his ear, and on 18 July he accepted the nomination. He went back to Butler on 5 October 2024 to finish the speech he had started, won the election on 5 November, and on 20 January 2025 was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

In memory

Corey Comperatore, a former volunteer fire chief from Buffalo Township, Pennsylvania, was killed at the rally while shielding his family. Two other rally-goers were seriously wounded. We remember them.
